Never stop reading, never stop learning.
With young kids at home it can be difficult to make the time to sit down with a book that requires your full attention, so thankfully for me reading can be listening. My commute to work is more often than not, tuned in to Audible; when I walk the dog I’m tuned in to Audible; and as I complete my chores, yes, you guessed it, audible.
As a leader I’m determined to never stop learning, to constantly renew and find a better way; a better way to think and a better way to act. Below is a list of another 4 great books that have provided me with inspiration and direction.
Discover Your True North – Bill George
I love the simple message of this book, be true to yourself and you will be the best leader you can be.
“discover your True North – the internal compass that guides you successfully through life”. Bill George
Depending on where you work, this may not always be easy; but, if you work somewhere where you can lead through your principles and values, you will more than likely hit the spot.
The Wisdom of Teams – Katzenbach & Smith
A great book about successful & cohesive executive teams. If you want to create a high performing team, this book has the ingredients to get you there. From humour to purpose, you’ll learn to use your wisdom to get the best out of a potential team.
The famed “All Blacks” New Zealand rugby team and their moral character is highlighted in the book Legacy by James Kerr. I love sport and I especially love it when sport can be related to business, James Kerr’s book is awesome at that.
The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive – Patrick Lencioni
A copy of this book sits on my work station along with a print out of “the four obsessions”, it’s my go to. Sometimes it’s easy to be distracted by the everyday, I use Pat’s four obsessions to keep focused. My job is to build and clarify and to clarify and to clarify over and over and over again!
Never stop reading, never stop learning.
